Not to us but to You be the glory

"Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness." Psalm 115:1 NIV

Between directing the LEAPFROG 5k race on Friday night and the Frog Hill Half and 10k on Saturday morning, I heard "Great job on organizing the race Melissa" numerous times. And each and every time I heard it, I responded with the same answer, "To God be the glory,” adding “He put together an amazing team of volunteers that made it all happen. I certainly didn’t do it alone." And this team of volunteers truly was amazing because each one of them strived to bring glory to his Name above all else in what they were doing. No one worked with the intention of stealing the spotlight from the One to whom it was meant to shine on but was content to do whatever it was that needed to be done; the very reason I believe that this event, now in it's seventh year, continues to be a success.

And you know, when it comes to giving God the glory or honor that He is due, the psalmist wrote "Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory," repeating "not to us" twice because he surely understood the temptation for people to take the credit for accomplishments and achievements that they could not have achieved apart from God's "love and faithfulness" in their lives. Something we do when we accept man's praise rather than redirecting it to the One to whom it is truly due, turning the spotlight on ourselves rather than the Lord—thereby stealing His glory. I don't know about you, but that is not something that I ever want to do.

So at every opportunity, give God the glory that He is due my friend. It will not only help keep you from falling into the sin of pride but will remind you that you are nothing apart from Christ and remind the world that God is the One responsible for all good things.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the love and faithfulness You bestow upon us. We are not deserving of any good thing and yet You bless us with more than we need. Help us to be humble Lord that we might be used to do mighty things in your Name. Stir our hearts God to show the world our love for You through selfless acts of service. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
