Right here, right now

Right here, right now

"If sometimes the cloud remained from evening until morning, when the cloud was lifted in the morning, they would move out; or if it remained in the daytime and at night, whenever the cloud was lifted, they would set out." Numbers 9:21

I am convinced that a good long run and an even longer talk with God is the best remedy for an anxious spirit.  I wasn't disappointed as I set out this morning ready for both.  I like to go.   I am a mover and a planner. I don't do well with sitting still or simply waiting for the right opportunity to serve Him.  So it did my heart good to be reminded that God has a purpose for me, and for all of us, right where we are today.  When Moses was leading the Israelites to the promised land, he relied solely on the Lord for guidance throughout the entire journey.  God provided a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night to guide them through the desert.  They traveled and camped as He instructed them.  But Numbers 9:22-23 says, "Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in the camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out.  At the Lord's command they encamped and at the Lord's command they set out."  There were times in their journey, and there will be in ours, when we are to set out but other times when we are to just simply "remain in the camp."

Rather than always looking forward to what God wants and asking, "What do you want me to do next?", we need to be still and trusting in Him and instead asking, "What do You want me to do now -while I'm right here?" His direction isn't always for our next move but sometimes for what He wants from us presently.   While we don't have that visible direction (cloud and fire), we do have the Holy Spirit. John 16:13 tells us, "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future."  Rather than looking for outward signs of where God wants you to be, simply look upward.

God gives us this wonderful promise in Isaiah 58:11, "The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.".  Isn't that awesome?  We don't have to wonder if we are where God wants us to be.  If we are following and walking (or running) with him daily, we will know without a doubt we are.  Go make a difference... right here and right now!

Heavenly Father, thank You for knowing what is best for us and for placing us exactly where we need to be to serve and glorify You.  May we be a blessing to someone right here, right now with the gifts, skills and abilities You designed specifically for us.  We love You and praise You for guiding us through this life so that one day we can leave it and enjoy Your presence forever.  In your precious name we pray Jesus, Amen.

Happy Running!!!
