We have a Helper

We have a Helper

"The helper whom I will send to you from the Father will come. This helper, the Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, will declare the truth about me." John 15:26

In your training and your daily life, wouldn't it be great to have a helper?  A Comforter?  An Advocate?  A Counselor?  A Redeemer?  How about your own personal Paraclete?  Well, I have good news then... we do have a helper.  In fact we have a comforter, advocate, counselor and a redeemer with us at all times if we are following Christ.  It is the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us. These are just a few of the ways He is described depending on which translation you are looking at. The Holy Spirit is so amazing that one word can't define Him! He is so powerful, one word can't contain Him, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."  Acts 1:8.  And He is so faithful, He will never leave us, "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever--" John 14:16.

The most interesting description, though, is paraclete . This is the Greek equivalent to the word "Helper" that Jesus used.  Do you know that this word was used in the ancient Olympic Games to identify those who accompanied a marathon runner or "one called to the side of another"? The Pneuma Review.  During the race, the paraclete would accompany the runner and shout encouragement to him.  Para means "alongside of" and kaleo means "to call".  Isn't it nice to know that we are not in this race alone? That we have an encourager with us every step of the way?  I love the picture this conjures up in my mind.  Everywhere we go, the Holy Spirit is with us giving us peace (Comforter), pleading our case (Advocate), giving us guidance (Counselor), and paying the cost (Redeemer). What a mighty God we serve!

I don't know about you but that puts a little "pep in my step".  Knowing that we always have someone by our side should encourage us enough to keep going to the finish.  No matter how hard or long the road is, we are never alone.

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Helper to comfort us, guide us and be with us always staying with us even in the hardest times.  You are an amazing God and You are worthy to be praised.  I pray we never stop giving You the glory as we continue to run this race.  In Your precious name we pray Jesus, Amen.

Happy Running!!!
