Unsung heroes

"Not finding them there, they dragged out Jason and some of the other believers instead and took them before the city council. “Paul and Silas have caused trouble all over the world,” they shouted, “and now they are here disturbing our city, too. And Jason has welcomed them into his home..." Acts 17:6,7 NLT

"Great job on your race last weekend," my friend said when she saw me yesterday. "Thank you," I said. "I surely can't take credit for it though. We had some great sponsors and a ton of volunteers out on the course and behind the scenes that made it happen. They’re the ones who deserve the praise.” And you know, it's true. Without the 'unsung heroes' who selflessly worked behind the scenes because they have a heart to serve and a genuine love for other people, giving of their time without the need for recognition or praise, the 6th Annual Frog Hill Half/10k/5k would never have happened. Nor would a million other things!

And you know, when it comes to 'unsung heroes,' or people who do good deeds without any desire of receiving any recognition for them, the Bible tells us very little about a man named Jason except that he welcomed Paul and Silas into his home when they arrived in Thessalonica, opening himself up to prosecution for the disturbance and trouble the two men caused in the city. But Jason didn't care. He wasn't looking for fame but, motivated by his genuine love for the Lord and for other people, was willing to selflessly play his part in spreading the Gospel even if it included suffering, thus making himself an ‘unsung hero.’

So if you're one of those people who works behind the scenes, pat yourself on the back my friend. While you may not be acknowledged for your good deeds by those around you, you can be sure that God sees each one and will one day reward you for every act that goes unnoticed.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who is worthy of all our praise. And thank you Lord for the reminder that people who work behind the scenes are as crucial for the advancement of the Gospel and winning the lost as the preacher who speaks in front of a million people. Help us to remember that every person's part matters and should be done with joy and motivated by love. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
