David's prayer

David's prayer

"Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.  For your name's sake, LORD, preserve my life, in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.  In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant."  Psalm 143:10-12

Have you ever lost hope in a situation?  Maybe you're feeling helpless right now?  Have you let fear and depression take over?  Let's face it, we all have. In fact, even the brave King David felt this way at times.   He wrote this psalm when he was relentlessly being pursued by Saul.  And Saul wasn't after David to return the sandals he borrowed either!  He was after David to kill him.  1 Samuel 23:13-14 says, " So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah and kept moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he did not go there.   David stayed in the desert strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands."

Like David, in the times we are feeling lost, alone, desperate and afraid, we can come to the Lord and lay it all down.   Don't be afraid to express what you are truly feeling.  He knows what you need before you ask, in fact, even before you know you need it.   Simply reach out to Him in prayer.  And then... trust Him.  Trust that God loves you and will "bring me out of trouble" the same way He did for David.  The scripture says, "Day after Day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands."  Amazing!!  God was solving the problem before David even asked.  He wants to do the same for you.

David prayed that God would teach him to do God's will, reminded God that he was his God and asked that God's spirit lead him on level ground.  For God's sake, he prayed that God would preserve his life and bring him out of trouble.  He knew God loved him (faith) as he prayed that in God's unfailing love, He would silence his enemies.  And, here's the best part.  He submitted all to Him by saying "for I am your servant."

What a powerful prayer.  God did indeed deliver David as He can for you.  Simply pray in faith and submit your life to Him.  He will handle the rest, I promise you.

Heavenly Father, teach us to do your will, for you are our God.  Lead us on solid ground preserving my life and keeping me out of trouble.  I am your servant Lord.  Your will be done in my life.  In your precious name Jesus, Amen.

Happy running!!!
