"I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced is in you as well." 2 Timothy 1:5 BSB
In a timely article posted on Global Running Day yesterday, the Detroit Lakes Tribune published a story titled, "Inspired by his grandpa, Detroit Lakes 12-year-old enters U.S. active running streak list." The article went on to say: Andrew Barberg is giving it his all in hopes of breaking his grandpa's running record. The Detroit Lakes 12-year-old recently completed his first year as a documented daily runner with Streak Runners International, Inc. So far, he's ranked number 2,589 (out of 2,592 total runners) on the United States Running Streak Association's website, runeveryday.com. With each mile he collects, he's catching up with his grandfather, Craig Oslin. Oslin, of Mora, Minnesota, is ranked 130th on the running streak log. The 68-year-old has run every day for 17 years and counting. For those who join the streak competition, it is first and foremost a personal challenge — which over time becomes a challenge to others. Barberg said there are no caveats for sick days or injuries. “If you miss a day, the next day you start at zero,” he said, noting that he's been motivated by that.
And you know, as this story clearly shows, grandparents can have a huge impact in the life of a child; something I think most people don’t fully realize. But we can see the influence of good and godly family members who genuinely love the Lord in the life of Timothy whom Paul commended for his “sincere faith” that first “dwelt in” his grandmother Lois and then in his mother Eunice. These two faithful women, Paul knew, passed down an inheritance far greater than anything of material value, an inheritance of eternal value that is having ripple effects to this very day.
So don’t discount the effect the sharing of your “sincere faith” can have in the life of your children or your grandchildren my friend. Work hard to pass it on knowing it’s the only inheritance you could ever leave them that will have an eternal impact.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that we are to be role models for the next generation, especially those within our family. Help us to take this mission so seriously that we would make the most of every opportunity to pass on our sincere faith. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!
