Never look back

"But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." Genesis 19:26 NIV

According to a recent statement published in the Journal of Clinical Hypertension, excess consumption of sodium has been associated with a number of health issues. So much so that the World Hypertension League wants to add warning labels to salt shakers. An example of such a warning label would read: “Too much sodium in the diet causes high blood pressure and increases risk of stomach cancer, stroke, heart disease and kidney disease. Limit your use.” Jacqui Webster, P.h.D., director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre on Population Salt Reduction told Runner’s World, "It is hoped that displaying a clear warning label on packages of salt sold in supermarkets and on salt containers in restaurants will have a significant impact on sodium consumption, thereby reducing rates of ill health."

And while eating processed foods containing an overabundance of sodium while going heavy on the salt shaker are definitely detrimental to our physical health, the Bible is clear that looking back longingly to our past while trying to grow closer to God is unquestionably detrimental to our spiritual health. And while you and I might not turn into a "pillar of salt" by doing so as Lot's wife did when she "looked back" longingly at the smoldering city of Sodom, we can easily be drawn back to our old life and the sin that leads to death when we fail to leave the past behind completely.

So resist the urge to look back on your old life my friend. Especially if it will entice you to return to the sinful ways you left behind. And make a vow to stand firm and grow in your walk with the Lord knowing you can't both look back and move forward at the same time.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that we are either looking to You or looking back at the sin we have left behind. Help us to commit our lives to serving You, and only You, wholeheartedly today and give us the strength and the discernment to leave the past in the past and to never ever look back. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
