Day one

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Ephesians 5:1,2

No doubt many people will be making a list today of resolutions or, as defined by Google Dictionary, a firm decision to do or not to do something. And according to Time Magazine, the top 10 resolutions made every year are to lose weight and get fit, quit smoking, learn something new, eat healthier, get out of debt and save money, spend more time with family, travel to new places, be less stressed, volunteer and to drink less. That's quite a list, isn't it?

Wouldn't it be easier if we only had one resolution to follow though? One commitment to fulfill that would negate our need for resolutions at all? Paul gives it to us in Ephesians 5:1,2 when he instructs us to make the decision to, "be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us,..". How can we imitate God then? It's as simple as asking yourself the popular question printed on millions of bracelets, t-shirts and books... What would Jesus do?

The answer to that question is found in the greatest self help manual of all time, the Bible. Within it's pages you will find everything you need to know to live a life free from the need to make any New Year's resolutions. Read it, commit to it and follow its teachings. That's what Jesus would do.

Today is day one my friends! May it be just the beginning of a year growing closer to Christ. Happy New Year!

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of another year passed and a new one that is fresh with opportunity to be our best and most productive one yet. Starting now, may we live each day committed to being imitators of you and doing only those things that Jesus would do. Help us to stay faithful to this goal Lord as we resolve to live our lives in service to you. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
