Peace in the storm

"The LORD rules over the floodwaters. The LORD reigns as king forever. The LORD gives his people strength. The LORD blesses them with peace." Psalm 29:10-11

I don't recall ever running in so much rain as I have in the last three days. My shoes barely have had enough time to dry before getting drenched again. I'm sure many runners can empathize with me as, all across the state of Missouri, the scene is the same... floodwaters everywhere (prompting a statement from the governor declaring it a natural disaster area). Sadly the unseasonable weather is not confined to this part of the country either as major flooding continues from Texas to the Ohio Valley in addition to unprecedented amounts of snow and ice and continued tornado warnings.

Throughout history, God has revealed his power through nature. Our power, in comparison, is very limited. But that shouldn't give us cause to worry - no, quite the opposite. When we are feeling weak or scared, we should remember that the power that controls creation is available to us. Psalm 29:10,11 tells us that "The Lord rules over the floodwaters" and "reigns as king forever." This same king, "gives his people strength..and blesses them with peace."

No matter how strong we think we are as individuals, this is a great reminder that we have absolutely no power over the weather or anything else for that matter. But we do have the power to find peace within the storm knowing that the LORD is with us.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your mighty displays of power that serve to remind us that you are an awesome and all powerful God, the only one who rules over the floodwaters and reigns as king forever. I pray that you would give your people strength to get through these times and bless them with the peace that only your presence can bring as we humbly proclaim Lord, we need you. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

Lord, I need you - Chris Tomlin
