Guard your heart

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23

In a study by Group Health, it was reported that regular exercise, defined as 30 minutes or more on most days, is an important way to keep your heart healthy and to enjoy overall good physical health. In comparison, a sedentary lifestyle (doing little or no exercise) doubles your risk of dying from heart disease. So making exercise a priority will help to protect your heart from disease and ensure that blood flows easily.

When it comes to spiritual heart health, Proverbs 4:23 gives us this command, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." We can do that through exercise too...  exercising self control (Proverbs 29:11), godliness (1 Timothy 4:7), faithfulness (1 Kings 2:3,4) and discernment (1 John 4:1). Making this a priority, working out every minute of every day and "above all else", will keep our hearts from being diseased, hardened or weakened ensuring that everything we do and say flows from a heart filled with and focused on Christ.

If you were to have a spiritual checkup today, would it yield good results? If not, it's time to get started on the exercise program laid out in the Scriptures. Everything we need to know for heart health is within the pages.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the many blessings you have given us. Thank you for your patience when we get off course and don't exercise our heart the way that we should. Help us to remember that guarding it, will ensure that good thoughts and actions flow from it. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
