Different

"Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires." Romans 13:14

With so many people running races these days, it seems many of the more dedicated runners are searching for new ways to attract attention and keep their runs fun and interesting. And in their effort to do so, many runners are doing things like running a marathon while dribbling a basketball, running a marathon while tied to 112 of their friends, running a marathon in high heel shoes, running a marathon up Mount Everest and running a marathon while juggling. I'd say these are all very "different" ways to complete 26.2 miles. Wouldn't you agree?

And when it comes to being unconventional or unusual, we, as Christians, should be so “different” from the world that it should be completely obvious. In fact, the Bible tells us that we are to put on "the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ" and avoid any thought of sin and any situation that might cause us to sin. This means you and I should be behaving like Jesus by thinking differently, acting differently and relating to others differently-hating sin and loving others the way He did. In other words, we shouldn't have to be running in high heels or up Mount Everest for people to know that we are "different".

So today, if you claim to be a follower of Jesus Christ, but are living and looking like everyone else in the world, then you may be in desperate need of a spiritual check-up. You may just need to ask yourself, “Why am I not different?”

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that clearly tells us that we are to be set apart from the world. Give us discernment to see how we might be compromising our values or beliefs in any way to "fit in" and then the strength to stand alone and be different. May we be so different and so like Jesus, that others would be drawn to You because of it. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
