A new heart

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." Ezekiel 36:26

Against all odds Sunday, Shae Brown crossed the finish line of the Chicago Marathon holding hands with Fred Miller, 62, the father of the organ donor who made the moment possible. You see, Brown, now 49, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 16 and underwent treatment that irreparably damaged her heart. By her mid-30s, Shae needed a pacemaker and by the age of 43, she needed a heart transplant. By God's grace, she received that new heart in 2013 from Fred's daughter, Alyssa (who died at the age of 24), and will be forever grateful for it.

You know, many people today have damaged hearts-hearts diseased from sin, hardened to the point of being like stone-and are in need of a heart transplant as well. Because of past hurts, iniquities and rebellion, many peoples hearts have become so calloused that it's become impossible for them to repent or to love Christ as they should. But thankfully no one has to stay that way. God has the power to transplant any heart, including "your heart of stone" and replace it with "a heart of flesh."

And even more thankfully, all a person needs to do to receive this spiritual life-saving-and-life-changing new organ is to humble themselves before God, ask for his help and then believe that He has the power to change even the coldest heart that would seek Him.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you don't punish us as we deserve but offer forgiveness instead to those who would choose to follow You and receive a new heart. May those whose hearts may have grown hard choose to submit to you today and receive a new heart that will change the course of their lives. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
