It was Love

"When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners." Romans 5:6

Wow. Running can get expensive. From shoes to gloves and entry fees to travel expenses, the cost can add up quickly. Ask any runner why they do it though and you'll likely get the same answer, because they love it. Ahhh.... love. It can make people do crazy things. It's inspired many sappy songs and been the source of much happiness and rejoicing.

But the greatest thing love ever inspired anyone to do came with the heftiest of price tags - death on a cross. Christ came for no other reason than to save us from our sins and to give us the gift of eternal life. We didn't have to earn it and there was no entry fee required. He knew the cost and yet He did it anyway, "Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God—as is written about me in the Scriptures.’” Hebrews 10:7. Jesus was born to die, simple as that. And not just for those who loved him back. Romans 5:7-8 says, "Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."

It wasn't nails that held Him on the cross, He had the power to call on the angels of Heaven to rescue Him, "Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?" Matthew 26:53. It was love. Pure and true. There is nothing we can ever do or say to repay that love. But we can share the greatest love story ever told with others so that they might come to know Him too. That could be the greatest act of "sharing it forward." Tell someone today. Tell them that Jesus loves them. It might be the first time they have ever heard it.

Heavenly Father, thank You for dying on the cross to save us from our sins. Thank You for loving us while we were dead in our sins and for continuing to love us through all our imperfections. May we be so overwhelmed with the love You have for us that we can't help but share it with other people. There is no greater thing we could do for a friend or stranger. Help us to be bold, compassionate and willing to share the greatest love story of all time. In your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
