“You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man’s heart.” Psalm 104:14,15 ESV
In an article posted by Runner’s World magazine on December 24 titled, “Adequate Vitamin D Levels May Protect Against Heart Disease, Research Finds” it was said that vitamin D has been showcased for bone strength, but it can benefit our cardiovascular systems as well. Which means runners who get sufficient vitamin D are less likely to develop heart disease, according to new research. Other vitamin D benefits include a sunnier mood, stronger bones, and better protection during cold and flu season. They went on to say that, although it’s possible to get Vitamin D from supplements and from food—such as fatty fish, eggs, and fortified products like milk— the researchers noted that dietary options tend to be a relatively poor source of vitamin D compared to getting enough sunshine. Great news right? Especially for those of us who opt for the great outdoors rather than the treadmill. Taking our daily runs outside are good for us in more ways than one.
And do you know what else is good for us? Praising God daily for his provisions. You see, as the psalmist clearly understood, everything is created by God and maintained by Him as well; things nature reveals to us. The psalmist acknowledged this when he said, "You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man’s heart." Knowing that God gave us sunshine to protect our hearts and bread to strengthen them gives us reason to praise our Provider all the more. He is just so good to us.
So if one of your resolutions for 2022 is to become healthier, make praise and thanksgiving a part of your daily routine. In fact, make it so much a part of your life that it flows out naturally. You'll not only cultivate a "sunnier mood" but will shine the light of Jesus in a world in desperate need of experiencing it.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that creation serves so many purposes. It not only declares your sovereignty but reveals so many things about your character. Thank You for loving us so much that You would provide for our needs. Cause us to remember that all good things come from You so that we would have a heart of praise. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
