There is freedom

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Corinthians 3:17

In a study published on April 27, PLOS Genetics researchers reported that when people inherited a particular gene variant known as FTO, they had a heightened risk of obesity. However, they said that the gene's effects are small and the effects of the DNA could most certainly be countered by exercise proving, once again, that genes don't have to be our destiny. Lead researcher Mariaelisa Graff, of the University of North Carolina said, “You still have a lot of choice over your behavior.” The bottom line they agreed on was this... "You need to exercise, no excuses."

And while science is inconclusive as to whether our genetic makeup or the way we are raised plays a bigger part (the nature-versus-nurture debate) in what we weigh, who we are, how we act and what we do, the Bible clearly tells us that you and I have a choice over our behavior regardless of our DNA or upbringing. You see, no matter what habits, addictions or lifestyles we feel we might have inherited or been exposed to, we can be set free from all of them because "where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." Thankfully,  this means that for every person in whose heart Jesus resides, deliverance can be had!

And so the bottom line is this... if you are living in bondage, there is no excuse for staying there. You have the power to change your situation and your life with just one choice. You can choose to follow Christ and claim freedom or allow your genes to determine your destiny. The choice is yours. 

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that promises us freedom from all those things that hold us back from being the person you intended us to be. For anyone who hasn't made the decision to follow you, I pray today would be the day they would choose to find the healing, strength and freedom only you can provide. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
