The signs are everywhere

"He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." Matthew 12:39 NIV

Sure. The calendar says it's spring. But it certainly doesn't feel that way yet, does it? Take heart that you're not alone in your thinking though. Heather Cass, of Erie Michigan, recently wrote this, "Oh, my running friends, I know. It’s been one long, hard, cold, miserable winter. And, it seems like it will never end. But, I’ve been encouraged lately by a few special signs that summer is surely on it’s way." Of the signs we can rejoice in, she mentioned that trees are budding, bulbs are pushing their way up, winter running gear is on clearance, and there are long lines at every car wash. In light of the obvious then, do we really need any more signs?

And you know, when it comes to signs, the Bible tells us the story of a group of people, the Pharisees, who had seen Jesus perform countless signs and wonders - more than enough of them to make it obvious that Christ was the Messiah. Yet, because they would not open their hearts, they still did not believe in Him. And knowing that no amount of miracles would change that, Jesus, upon their request for more signs said, "But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." In other words, Jesus' resurrection after three days in the grave would prove, and be the ultimate sign, that He was indeed the Son of God.

Sadly enough, even though the signs are everywhere, many people still don't believe today. "If I could just see a miracle, then I would believe," they say. But I say, do we really need any more signs? Look around. The trees are blooming without any help. The grass is growing unassisted and the sun continues to rise and set every day. And very soon, my friend, you and I will celebrate Easter, when the greatest miracle and sign ever occurred... the day our Savior rose from the dead.

Heavenly Father, how can we ever thank You for the sacrifice of your Son? May we be so grateful that we would live our lives telling others about the true meaning of Easter and the reason we celebrate. Thank you Lord that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the only sign we need to know that You are God and we are saved because of it. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
