You are not forgotten

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." Matthew 10:29-31

I saw something unusual today on my morning run, a fallen sparrow. Lifeless on the ground, it looked as if it were merely sleeping. Why, I thought, aren't there more of these? You would think with the cold weather, the lack of shelter and other winter conditions, many birds would die. But somehow and for some reason, God takes care of them. There's no worms in the cold hard ground yet God feeds them. It just amazes me. God amazes me.

And to consider that He values me more than the sparrows He shelters is even more amazing. And yet he does... He values you more too. Luke 12:6 (ESV) says, "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God." We are not forgotten - what an eye opener when you're feeling as if God doesn't care or know what you're facing. He knows when even one sparrow "will fall to the ground." How much more should we then trust Him to know and care about what we're going through. Jesus reminds us to "Fear not, therefore" because "you are of more value than many sparrows." He loves us so much and is so interested in what we're facing that he even numbered the hairs on our head! With an average of 100,000 hairs on each person's head, it's even more amazing that He would care about that very minor detail.

As the song goes, Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come, why should my heart feel lonely and long for heaven and home? When Jesus is my portion, a constant friend is He, his eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches over me. Oh praise God, He cares!

Heavenly Father, thank You for being such a loving God, comforter and friend in our time of need. To know that you value us more than a sparrow that You feed, clothe and shelter is enough to make our hearts sing with joy. Oh thank you Father for loving us and for the reminder that You know everything we are facing and care about every detail of our lives. In your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
