Speak up

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." 1 Peter 4:10-11

Benjamin Watson
"I'M ENCOURAGED, because ultimately the problem is not a SKIN problem, it is a SIN problem. SIN is the reason we rebel against authority. SIN is the reason we abuse our authority. SIN is the reason we are racist, prejudiced and lie to cover for our own. SIN is the reason we riot, loot and burn. BUT I'M ENCOURAGED because God has provided a solution for sin through the his son Jesus and with it, a transformed heart and mind. One that's capable of looking past the outward and seeing what's truly important in every human being. The cure for the Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner tragedies is not education or exposure. It's the Gospel. So, finally, I'M ENCOURAGED because the Gospel gives mankind hope."

These were just some of the words spoken by New Orleans Saints' player, Benjamin Watson, the day after the news broke about the controversial decision of a Missouri grand jury to not indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. As a high profile athlete, he had the unique platform to voice his opinion and share Christ with the world. Praise God he didn't let the opportunity pass him by. As a Christian, he knows that all gifts and strength are supplied by God for the sole purpose that, "in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.". We live in a fallen world where more and more people are choosing to remain silent rather than face criticism.

James 5:20 says, "remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins." (NIV) Do we not love one another enough to speak up? Do we not love God enough to speak out? To declare what we know to be truth to turn others to Him? Jesus said this of his disciples, ""I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." (Luke 19:40 NIV). May we all be as bold as Benjamin Watson and use the position God has placed us in to help others.

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us all gifts and talents. May we remember that they are all from you and to be used to glorify You. May we reach out to the lost with love and a desire to lead them to You that they might have eternal life. Let your light shine through us in everything we say and do Lord. In your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
