Don’t be Caught Unaware

For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” Matthew 24:38-39 NIV

In an article titled, "Chicago Marathon Returns to 45,000 Finishers for 45th Anniversary" published Friday, the following was reported: On December 8, the Chicago Marathon announced that 45,000 participants will start the 2023 edition of the historic race. The field size honors the marathon’s 45th anniversary. Additionally, one of the 2023 participants will cross the finish line as the Chicago Marathon’s significant one-millionth finisher. “We’re thrilled to host 45,000 participants for the first time since 2019 at the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon,” Carey Pinkowski, Chicago Marathon Executive Race Director, said in a press release. “As part of our millionth-finisher field, these participants will write their names in the event’s history book during a particularly special year. We look forward to celebrating their performances, as well as the contributions of the volunteers, spectators and community members who have made the Chicago Marathon the world-class racing tradition it is today.”

And you know, while things returning to ‘normal’ might give many people a reason to celebrate and let down their guard, the discerning Christian should take heed and consider the words of Jesus, “For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” You see, the Bible is very clear about what will be happening in our world before the return of our Savior. And no matter how ‘normal’ things may appear right now, the event will happen in the blink of an eye. Sadly, those who have not put their trust in Jesus will be caught unprepared; something that has devastating eternal consequences.

So don’t be caught unaware my friend. Jesus is coming back at a time when we least expect it, no matter how ‘normal’ the world might seem now. Be ready by placing your trust in Him today.

Heavenly Father, thank You for your Word that clearly lists the signs of Jesus’ imminent return. Give us discerning hearts and eyes Lord that we would not be fooled into a false sense of comfort and be caught unaware or unprepared when Jesus comes to take us home. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!
