BASS PRO MIDWEEK MOTIVATION - Sing those Carols

Hello runner friends!
Welcome back to the Bass Pro Fitness Series
MIDWEEK M😊TIVATI😊N blog!

Now let’s get started by talking about a way to make your holiday runs more festive and to prepare yourself for Christmas all at the same time… making up new lyrics as you listen to those holiday classics. This will not only make the miles fly by as quickly as Santa’s sleigh but will make you as jolly as St. Nick's elves.

So after I give you my unique rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s Santa Claus is Coming to Town (after all that’s the guy who gave us ‘Born to Run’ right? so what better song to pick?), check out these other yuletide tunes that have been modified by runners to fit the season and the sport.

It's all cold down along the racecourse
The wind's whipping down the trail
Hey running group!
(Yeah? Hey, there!) You runners know what time of year it is?
(Yeah!) What time, huh? What? (Christmas time!)
What? (Christmas time!) Oh, Christmas time!
You guys all, you runners all been good and training real hard?
Yeah? Ed, you been, you been training real hard now,
So Santa'll bring you a new pair of Speedgoats, right?
Everybody out there been good, or what?
Oh, that's not many, not many, you guys are in trouble out here!
Come on.

Yeah, you better PR, you better not whine
You better not gripe, I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
He's making a list, he's checkin' it twice
He's gonna find out whose naughty or nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're tapering
He knows when you're off pace
He knows if you've been bad or good
You better be good for racing’s sake
(You better be good for racing’s sake)

AND NOW FOR THE OTHERS….

Frosty the Snowman

Frosty the snowman
Knew the sun was hot that day
So he said
Let’s run and we’ll have some fun
Now before I melt away

As for the other holiday classics? Well, they just need a few tweaks...

Rudolph the Red-Toed Reindeer

Rudolph the Red-Toed Reindeer
Had a very shiny blister
And if you ever saw it
You would even say, ‘No, sister!’

I’ll Be Home for Christmas (As Soon as I Get a Quick 5 In)

I’ll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have the shower on
Fourteen cookies and a cup of hot tea

I Saw Mommy Kissing Bart Yasso

I saw Mommy kissing Bart Yasso
Underneath the finish line last night

Jingle Bells

Dashing through the streets
On a tempo run tonight
O'er the hills we go
Trucking all the way...
Oh, what fun it is to laugh and sing a running song tonight.

Let It Snow

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But my new tights are so delightful
And since we have 10 miles to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Black ice, no!

Deck the Halls

Deck the halls with racing medals,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Rather run than push those pedals,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Don we now our wicking apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the cabernet by the barrel,
Fa la la la, la la, la la.

Twelve Days of Christmas

Twelve muscles hurting
Eleven hills a climbing
Ten nails a splitting
Nine eggs a nogging
Eight miles a hoofing
Seven PRs a wanting
Six shoes a buying
Five goooolden pancakes
Four missing socks
Three neon shirts
Two rubbing thighs
And a big goal in the New Year

So there you have it friends. Singing songs while running is always fun but is even more fun this time of the year when we remember the words of Buddy the Elf, "The best way to spread Christmas is cheer is singing loud for all to hear." So modify those tunes to fit your pace and get out there and sing them at the top of your lungs for all to hear.

Happy Running!

*On a side note: if you’ve come up with some good renditions, share them in the comments section!
