Trust the Creator

“He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’” Matthew 17:20 ESV

In a story aired by CBS News Colorado last week, runner Naomi Bogale's story (which they deemed a story of faith, and could be a Christmas miracle) was shared. One year ago, she was a world class athlete training to take the running world by storm. "I was dreaming to be world (a) record holder," said Bogale. She had just moved to Colorado from her home in Ethiopia to train, when her life was turned upside down. Seven months ago, she was on the way home from practice when the car she was riding in wrecked. Naomi suffered a broken back and a spinal cord injury. Naomi couldn't move or feel her legs; The thing she relied on to make a living. Most people assumed her running career and livelihood were gone. Many assumed she would never walk again, and if she did, it would be a long journey. "Doctors they said maybe in 2-3 years, that's maybe," said Bogale. But Naomi has an enormous amount of faith. She had faith she could walk again, and has faith in her creator. One night she says her faith lifted her. And her faith certainly paid off. Just seven months after being completely paralyzed Naomi could walk with the aid of a walker. She gives all the credit for her recovery to God.

And you know when it comes to the size of our faith, Jesus said that a person who has the "faith like a grain of mustard seed" (a seed that’s very, very small but has the potential to become a 30-ft bush) could tell a mountain to move and it would move. In other words, nothing would be impossible for the person who placed their small faith in a big and mighty God. You see, what matters most is what our faith is in, the object of our faith not so much the size of it. Which means there’s no “mountain” that can't be moved or problem that can't be overcome when we trust in the Creator of the universe.

So don't be afraid to speak to the mountains in your way today my friend and declare, "Why would I worry when giants come calling my name? My God is so much bigger than troubles I face. Why would I hunger for power or riches or fame? Oh, 'cause my God is so much better than all of these things. So I won't be shaken. I won't be moved. My God is faithful. His promise is true. So I'll speak to the mountains "Oh, it's time to move. 'Cause my God is bigger, better, stronger, greater than you."

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that nothing is impossible with You. You are more than capable of moving those mountains in our way Lord. Cause us to trust You to move them in your time and in your way so that we would not fret or worry about the future. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!
