You are there

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there." Psalm 139:7,8

While sitting in the exam room yesterday, I could feel my anxiety rising as the doctor calmly described the procedure he was going to perform to extract a piece of tissue for a biopsy. It seems years of running and being in the sun without sunscreen had finally caught up with me and I was now reaping the consequences. So, as I laid there in silence while he numbed my cheek and prepared to take a portion of the damaged skin, I did what I always do when I need to be reminded that I am not alone-I silently began singing Psalm 139, "You have searched me and know me...familiar with all my ways..."

And this Psalm that undoubtedly brought so much comfort to it's writer, David, immediately began to calm and comfort me. You see, it reminded me that there's absolutely nowhere I can go that his Spirit won't go too and nowhere I can flee that his presence won't follow. And it's a promise that God was in that room with me and I was not alone. And you know what else? Those written words are a reminder to us all that God is always there no matter where we are. In fact, the Psalmist was so sure of it that he wrote, "If I go up to the heavens you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there."

Perhaps you need that same reassurance today too? That God is there? Then I would pray that you would meditate on the words of the psalmist, "you are there" until you realize that He truly is there.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that reminds us that you truly love us. In spite of our sin, in spite of our actions, you love us! And you love us so much that you have promised to always be there no matter where we might travel or what trials we might encounter. Thank you for the peace that knowledge brings and thank you for you the comfort your Presence gives us. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

Mercy Me - You are there
