Do it for His glory

"So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

Vicki Classen, 62, completed her 100th marathon Saturday at the Lakefair Marathon in Olympia, Washington. Before the race, she said that every finish line provides a sense of accomplishment but this one was to be the end of an emotional, long-distance journey. You see, she was finishing something that she and her husband, Gary, started together in the early 1980's when he decided, after running just one marathon, to run 100 of them. Vicki quickly joined him for the second one and never looked back, running by his side at each race. But, when he died in 2012 after only having completed 72 marathons, Vicki had a reason to keep running-she wanted to finish what they started, the goal that he had given himself.

You know, there are thousands of reasons people choose to run a 26.2 mile race every year. It might be to honor a loved one (as was the case with Vicki), to get in shape or to prove something to oneself. And while these are certainly honorable justifications for doing so, the Bible tells us that our main reason for doing anything should be, "for the glory of God." That means, before you and I make a decision to "eat or drink" or "whatever" else you and I may do, we need to ask ourselves, "Does this action bring glory to God?" You see, honoring God should be our motive for everything that we do.

So, in our quest to give God the glory He alone is due, may that question be the guiding principle for our actions. Because, in the words of Lecrae, "You and I live to manifest the glory of God."

Heavenly Father, thank you for being such an amazing God whose glory could never be exaggerated. You are the Maker, Sustainer and the Provider of all good things. And for that, deserving of all honor, praise and glory. May we seek to always put you first in all we say and do. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
