Pray for them

"Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you." Luke 6:28

Bill Finkbeiner, a Sacramento Running Association Hall of Famer, was severely injured last month when a bicyclist collided with him while he was running on the American River Parkway. The accident left him with facial fractures, a broken thumb and several broken teeth. And while Finkbeiner believes the person should be charged with a hit-and-run and punished, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office can't prove that the person committed a crime since the evidence points to it being an accident.

You know, if we're honest, each and every one of us would admit that we've been hurt by something someone has said or done and know that it's a natural reaction to want those people who have wronged us to be punished. But the Bible clearly tells us that we are never to take revenge (Romans 12:19) but are to react in a way directly contrary to what we might feel like doing and to bless those people who curse us and pray for those who hurt us.

And while our our actions may not always lead a wrong-doer to Christ, they will be an example to those around us of the love of Jesus. You see when He abides in our hearts, we can't help but show others His love-even when it goes contrary to what the world might do. So bless and pray for your enemies my friend. It just might lead them, or someone else, to the Father.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that so clearly states how we are to react when people curse or hurt us. Help us to follow the example of Christ that we might be a light to those around us and, perhaps, lead them to the foot of the Cross by doing so. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
