Find the way back

"“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”  Joel 2:12

While many people will be working on fulfilling their resolutions and begin running for the first time ever this month, many other people will be "finding the way back" to the sport. You see, for one reason or another, it's easy to backslide and fall away from exercise as many runners can attest to doing. Thankfully, though, renowned coach Jeff Galloway gives these steps for renewing that lost love of the sport: walk first until you're feeling stronger, ease back into it adding walking breaks, establish a routine and listen to your body. He says that by following those steps, you should be up and back to running in no time.

And when it comes to backsliding and falling away, the Bible tells us that people throughout eternity and especially today have found it all too easy to go astray.  But thankfully, "finding the way back" and renewing that lost love is easier than you might think. You see God loves you and me so much that he made the way back very simple... turn from those things that have caused us to leave the straight and narrow and turn back to Him.

So if your number one resolution today is to renew your relationship with Jesus, it all begins with surrendering your heart completely to Him-truly sorry for the things that led you away. And whatever those 'things' may happen to be, you can be sure it's nothing so bad that God would not take you back. He did it for the Israelites time and time again and He wants to do it for you. In fact, he is inviting you today to, "return to me with all your heart..."

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that shows just how deep your mercy, grace, love, forgiveness and kindness are. I pray that if there's anyone longing to return to you today that this would be the moment they would make the decision. This is, after all, the time of new beginnings and it is never too later to make one. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
