I am a runner striving, as the apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3:17, to (joyfully) do everything, whether by words or actions, "in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

Strive to be a hero
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.’” Joshua 1:9 NIV
In an article titled “Pastor donates kidney to parishioner, running buddy” posted Monday by WSBTV, it was reported that Cobb County Pastor James Slick donated his kidney to his friend Jack Abbott, a once avid runner who served as the course director for the Peachtree Road Race until 2019. Now a little over a year later, Abbott and Slick are back to doing what they love, crossing finish lines together. Dr. Clark Kensinger, a multi-organ transplant surgeon with Piedmont Healthcare, said stories like Abbott and Slick’s inspire people to make similar sacrifices.“When donors or potential donors hear these stories, it really makes an impact on being able to find as many patients as possible to come forward for you to potentially be a donor,” Kensinger said. “We are forever grateful for how much of a sacrifice they make to save another person’s life through kidney transplantation, so they are truly heroes”

BASS PRO MIDWEEK MOTIVATION - Work on your Weaknesses in 2023
Now let's get started by talking about the obvious. 2022 is almost over and runners all over the world are gearing up for 2023 by making New Year's Resolutions. Perhaps you're one of them? If you are, then you most likely have some of the most common resolutions written down already as well as a plan to achieve them. Perhaps your list includes one or all of these:
- Run Faster
- Run Farther
- Stay Injury Free
- Run a Consistent Pace
- A lack of flexibility
- Lack of strength
- Prone to injury
- Running up hills
- Running downhill
- Inconsistency when it comes to diet or exercise
Pick
Periodize
Prioritize
And finally, some of us just don’t spend enough time training our bodies to do what we expect them to do. Sometimes the best way to get better is to put in a little hard work and time. We may not have much of the latter, but I’m betting most of us can all squeeze a few more minutes of training into our week if we want it bad enough. Prioritize what's important to you by doing it first and you're sure to see success. Schedule in your workouts.I know it’s pretty simple, but sometimes it takes some reminding that our strengths are usually what got us to where we are in the first place. They’re the reason we enjoy certain workouts, races or trails. Take some time to focus on the weaknesses, but remember, the fun often lies in where we’re strongest. And that's the reward for working on the weaknesses. The strengths become stronger and all the more enjoyable.

Seek Him Early
A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. Psalm 63:1 NKJV
In an article titled, “Daily Tips That Will Help You Through the 2022 Holiday Run Streak” published by Runner’s World yesterday, the number one tip offered by the experts for completing the 39-day one-mile-a-day challenge was to make a commitment. The writer went on to say: Committing to something is less about having time and more about setting priorities,” as Nicole Detling, Ph.D., mental performance coach and author of Don’t Leave Your Mind Behind: The Mental Side of Performance previously told Runner’s World. So, as you kick off your run streak, think about the best time to fit your daily mile into your schedule. Is it right when you get up, during a midday lunch break, after work, or somewhere in between? No matter when you do it, it’s always smart to mark it down on your calendar so you block off the time, too.
And you know, while finding the best time to fit your daily mile in is a great way to increase your physical health, finding the best time to fit in your Bible study (aka “training for godliness”) reaps spiritual health “ benefits in this life and in the life to come.” David certainly understood this and so said, “ Early will I seek You…” because he knew it was important to spend time with the Lord before doing anything else. You see, what we do first shows what’s important to us. Not only that, the instruction, edification, encouragement, and insight we receive from the living Word each morning will build us up, light our path and change the way we live.
So seek the Lord early my friend. Commit to making time with Him your number one priority and you’ll soon find that the physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental benefits are beyond measure.
Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing us access to You at all times through the Word and prayer. It’s an awesome thought to know that we can come to the Creator of the universe for guidance, direction and comfort. Give us a deep thirst for You Lord that cannot be quenched by anything but time spent with You so that we would seek You above all else. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!

We Must love like Jesus
"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." Philippians 2:5-8 NKJV

The Perfect Gifts
"On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh." Matthew 2:11 BSB
"Oh please Mom," my daughter earnestly pleaded with me yesterday. "Please open your birthday gifts a day early. I'll be gone shopping all day tomorrow and I really want you to have them now. They're both something that you'll really love and will definitely use." As I debated on whether to give in, my husband chimed in and said, "Come on honey. She really wants you to see what we got you." "Okay," I said smiling at their insistence, "I'll do it now." And to say I was glad I did would have been an understatement. These two thoughtful people I'm blessed to call my family got me two of the most 'perfect' gifts a runner girl and busy mom could ever ask for--a Theragun mini to massage my sore muscles on the go and an air fryer/convection oven/microwave combo to cook my favorite foods. "I just love you guys so much," I told them afterwards. "Thank you for being so thoughtful."
And you know, when it comes to receiving the 'perfect' gifts, the Bible tells us that Magi from the east presented Jesus "with gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh." And while there is speculation as to everything these gifts represent, the ancient church understood them to symbolize aspects of Christ's life, ministry, and the work He would do. The gold suggested His royalty as King of the Jews and Lord of lords. In the frankincense, they saw His divinity. The myrrh represented His humanity—and that to the fullest extent because myrrh suggests death and burial. Thus, the gifts were 'perfect' because they came to show Jesus as King, God, and Man.

Continue to Praise
“There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil.” Job 1:1 ESV
So no matter what trials you and I might be facing today, may our reaction to them be to sing praises to the One whose ways are much higher than ours; knowing that God will not allow His sons and daughters to suffer in vain.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that we won’t understand everything that happens in life nor should we try to. Cause us to remember that You are sovereign over all, and because of that we should trust all things to work for our good and for your glory. Give us peace in the midst of our problems Lord. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

BASS PRO MIDWEEK MOTIVATION - Make Christmas Fitness a Family Affair
Well.... how about changing up your exercise plans to combine movement with family time? You'll not only make memories but avoid some of the weight gain, mood swings and setbacks that come with taking time off from running. And since regular physical activity improves our mood we would do well to incorporate it into our holiday rituals and traditions.
So to help you and your family find more joy together during the holiday season, check out these 11 Christmas Activities from ACTIVEFORLIFE (with some modifications) that will help keep the holiday fit, festive, fun and full of excitement.
There are plenty of good reasons to harvest a real tree instead of an artificial tree. Not only is it better for the environment but it makes for a fun active holiday tradition. Strolling through a Christmas tree farm and picking out that perfect tree is a magical experience for the entire family. It also gets the heart pumping, especially if you have to trudge through knee-high snow.
2. Join a local Santa Run
A Santa Run, Santa Shuffle, or Elf Walk is a fun holiday tradition for getting the whole family moving regardless of fitness level, age, or ability. Kids really enjoy Santa Runs--especially when they can wear fun Santa hats and enjoy hot cocoa at the end. If there’s no Santa Run near you, invite a couple of families and plan your own informal Santa Run around your neighborhood or nearby park.
Strap on those skates for a fun family skating session. Skating is great physical activity for children. It helps them develop movement skills like coordination and balance, and gets their heart pumping too.
Take advantage of public swim times at your community indoor pool to splash in the water over the holiday season. Swimming is a whole body activity for all ages that’s great for coordination, strength, and cardio. It’s also a great opportunity for Mom or Dad to sneak in a much-needed moment of relaxation in the hot tub.
Most towns and cities have a neighborhood with eye-catching displays of holiday lights and decorations for everyone to enjoy. Instead of doing the typical holiday lights drive-by, find a spot to park your vehicle and enjoy a walk through the neighborhood instead. When your walk is done, head to a local coffee shop or home to enjoy a warm cup of tea or hot chocolate together.
The Christmas season is a wonderful time for showing kindness to those around us. Doing an “active” act of kindness is an opportunity to spread some holiday cheer while getting active as a family. Think of some physical activities that might be challenging for sick, disabled, or elderly people to do in winter weather. Here are some ideas: shoveling snow, spreading salt on walkways, taking a dog for a walk, and collecting the mail. Try to come up with some of your own “active” acts of kindness that you can do together as a family.
7. Explore winter with an outdoor scavenger hunt
Winter is a magical time. Like every other season, there’s plenty to see and explore—you might just have to look a little closer. One great way to explore nature is by doing an outdoor scavenger hunt. This simple tool lets us slow down and appreciate the beauty of nature all around, whether it’s in a city, town or in the country. You can find a free winter scavenger hunt printable here.
8. Decorate an outdoor tree for wild animals
Winter can be a challenging season for wildlife and the holidays can be a great time to give them a helping hand. Try decorating an outdoor tree for wildlife or making homemade birdseed ornaments. Paired with popcorn garlands, birdseed ornaments can be hung on a small tree for birds to enjoy over the holiday season. Decorating an outdoor tree will encourage active time outdoors in a fun and unique way that your family will treasure.
9. Sled down a hill
One thing that we will have going for us this holiday season (if the weatherman is right) is snow! While the thought of bundling everyone up can be overwhelming enough to warrant staying indoors, time spent outside gives a big boost to our health and well-being, something we all need more of over the holidays.
Continuing with the snow theme, snow is also a great medium for building with and sculpting. Rolling big snowballs to make a snowman is a great workout, and so is building a snow fort. These activities offer opportunities to build strength and coordination, and to encourage creative play. If the snow is light and dry, pack a bunch of it into a big container, let it sit overnight, and tip it over in the morning. The snow should have hardened enough to make a nice snow carving block.
11. Go on a outdoor winter picnic
Delicious food and the holidays go hand-in-hand, but one way to enjoy some tasty treats while getting in some active time outdoors is to go for an outdoor winter picnic. This can be as simple as bringing hot chocolate and cookies to enjoy at a park or hiking into nature and setting up a more elaborate picnic lunch in the woods. If your children are younger, bring food that’s easy to eat with mitts on (granola bars, sandwiches, muffins, carrots) so those little fingers don’t get too frosty. And don’t forget to bring along a picnic blanket to sit on!

Lend your Support
“To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.” 1 Timothy 1:2 NIV
In a story titled “Darren Kay: Missing runner's family overwhelmed by support published by the BBC, the following was said about the ongoing search for the missing runner: The family of a British man who went missing while running alone on Madeira say they have been overwhelmed with support. Fell runner Darren Kay, 52, was on holiday with his partner in the town of Calheta when the couple went on a two-hour run together on Sunday. Mr Kay, from Sedbergh in Cumbria, decided to carry on by himself but never returned, his brother Jonny said. The family said they were working with agencies on the island to find him. In a statement, they said: "Sadly we are not able to provide any positive news at this time in the search for Darren. They went on to say, “We would also wish to thank everyone back home for their messages of support and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown."
And you know, while messages of support might not have the power to change a person’s situation or circumstances, notes or letters of encouragement do have the power to help them endure the trials and hardships they might be facing. Which is the very reason Paul wrote two letters to young Timothy filling him with the “Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord” that were of immeasurable value in giving him the strength, knowledge, courage, fortitude, and confidence to keep pressing on despite the hurdles and hardships that he would face as a young pastor and faithful follower of Christ.
So let us follow the example of Paul and send an encouraging note or text to a person who might need a little bit of encouragement today. Or better yet, when it’s in our power to do so, let us deliver it in person remembering that although Christmas is the most wonderful time of year for some, there are many people who willl be alone and hurting.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that encouraging words can bring immeasurable comfort to people who might be hurting or lonely. Cause us to be sensitive to the Spirit’s prompting and to act on it when we are prompted to visit, call, text or write to someone knowing it could be just what they need to muster the resolve to press on. Lord we also pray for Darren Kay and his family today. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!

Trust the Creator
“He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’” Matthew 17:20 ESV
In a story aired by CBS News Colorado last week, runner Naomi Bogale's story (which they deemed a story of faith, and could be a Christmas miracle) was shared. One year ago, she was a world class athlete training to take the running world by storm. "I was dreaming to be world (a) record holder," said Bogale. She had just moved to Colorado from her home in Ethiopia to train, when her life was turned upside down. Seven months ago, she was on the way home from practice when the car she was riding in wrecked. Naomi suffered a broken back and a spinal cord injury. Naomi couldn't move or feel her legs; The thing she relied on to make a living. Most people assumed her running career and livelihood were gone. Many assumed she would never walk again, and if she did, it would be a long journey. "Doctors they said maybe in 2-3 years, that's maybe," said Bogale. But Naomi has an enormous amount of faith. She had faith she could walk again, and has faith in her creator. One night she says her faith lifted her. And her faith certainly paid off. Just seven months after being completely paralyzed Naomi could walk with the aid of a walker. She gives all the credit for her recovery to God.
And you know when it comes to the size of our faith, Jesus said that a person who has the "faith like a grain of mustard seed" (a seed that’s very, very small but has the potential to become a 30-ft bush) could tell a mountain to move and it would move. In other words, nothing would be impossible for the person who placed their small faith in a big and mighty God. You see, what matters most is what our faith is in, the object of our faith not so much the size of it. Which means there’s no “mountain” that can't be moved or problem that can't be overcome when we trust in the Creator of the universe.

Walk Worthy of the Calling
“I. therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to, walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-3 (ESV)
In an article titled, “Richmond once again named a ‘runner friendly’ city by Road Runners Club of America” published yesterday, the following was reported: Whether it’s a 5k or an early morning job, runners love Richmond. Now, the city has officially renewed its status as a Runner Friendly Community with the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). At the end of November, Richmond’s status as a Runner Friendly Community was offically renewed by the RRCA, alongside four other cities. To determine if a community is “Runner Friendly,” RRCA looks at community infrastructure, community support and local government support. Cities have to prove that their community supports running and that they can maintain infrastructure that makes running both safe and enjoyable.

Stretch your Faith
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 NIV
In an article titled, “The Best Inversion Tables to Help Work Out the Kinks In Your Back,” and subtitled “Get at-home relief and relaxation from a good stretch of the spine” posted by Runner’s World Sunday, the following was said: An inversion table might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re furnishing your home gym, but it could be the one of the most important. Inversion tables are helpful for people with back pain, as they can reduce and even eliminate discomfort from chronic back pain, sciatica, and herniated disks. Even if you have a healthy back, an inversion table can improve your posture, release stress, and stretch out your spine after a day hunched at a desk. Done frequently this type of stretching will not only help you with pain but can make you a better runner. And who doesn’t want that right?
And speaking of stretching, the Bible is very clear that our growing belief in God pleases Him so much that He “rewards those who earnestly seek him,” or those who continue to stretch or grow in their faith. Which means we become ‘better’ Christians each and every time our belief in God is tested in the fires of trials and adversity and we prove to be faithful followers who continue to pursue Christ despite the obstacles. You see, in order for our trust in God to show and grow we must encounter, endure, and ultimately overcome hardships, hard times, and calamities—something that’s never pleasant at the time but reaps benefits and bounties of immeasurable value when we don't give up.
So no matter what trial or trouble you might be facing today my friend, hold tight to your faith. Remember all the times God has been faithful to you in the past and trust that He will be faithful again today, tomorrow and everyday thereafter. Seek the Lord earnestly through prayer and supplication and then trust Him as you watch your faith growing and stretching.
Heavenly Father, thank you for stretching us to make us more like You. Help us to patiently lean into You during these times rather than resist the care, comfort, and compassion that only You can give. Remind us Lord that like a tree, our roots grow strongest when we face the winds. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus, Amen.
Happy Running!!!

BASS PRO MIDWEEK MOTIVATION - Sing those Carols
Now let’s get started by talking about a way to make your holiday runs more festive and to prepare yourself for Christmas all at the same time… making up new lyrics as you listen to those holiday classics. This will not only make the miles fly by as quickly as Santa’s sleigh but will make you as jolly as St. Nick's elves.
It's all cold down along the racecourse
The wind's whipping down the trail
Hey running group!
(Yeah? Hey, there!) You runners know what time of year it is?
(Yeah!) What time, huh? What? (Christmas time!)
What? (Christmas time!) Oh, Christmas time!
You guys all, you runners all been good and training real hard?
Yeah? Ed, you been, you been training real hard now,
So Santa'll bring you a new pair of Speedgoats, right?
Everybody out there been good, or what?
Oh, that's not many, not many, you guys are in trouble out here!
Come on.
Yeah, you better PR, you better not whine
You better not gripe, I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
He's making a list, he's checkin' it twice
He's gonna find out whose naughty or nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you're tapering
He knows when you're off pace
He knows if you've been bad or good
You better be good for racing’s sake
(You better be good for racing’s sake)
Frosty the Snowman
Frosty the snowman
Knew the sun was hot that day
So he said
Let’s run and we’ll have some fun
Now before I melt away
As for the other holiday classics? Well, they just need a few tweaks...
Rudolph the Red-Toed Reindeer
Rudolph the Red-Toed Reindeer
Had a very shiny blister
And if you ever saw it
You would even say, ‘No, sister!’
I’ll Be Home for Christmas (As Soon as I Get a Quick 5 In)
I’ll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have the shower on
Fourteen cookies and a cup of hot tea
I Saw Mommy Kissing Bart Yasso
I saw Mommy kissing Bart Yasso
Underneath the finish line last night
Jingle Bells
Dashing through the streets
On a tempo run tonight
O'er the hills we go
Trucking all the way...
Oh, what fun it is to laugh and sing a running song tonight.
Let It Snow
Oh the weather outside is frightful
But my new tights are so delightful
And since we have 10 miles to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Black ice, no!
Deck the Halls
Deck the halls with racing medals,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Rather run than push those pedals,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Don we now our wicking apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the cabernet by the barrel,
Fa la la la, la la, la la.
Twelve Days of Christmas
Twelve muscles hurting
Eleven hills a climbing
Ten nails a splitting
Nine eggs a nogging
Eight miles a hoofing
Seven PRs a wanting
Six shoes a buying
Five goooolden pancakes
Four missing socks
Three neon shirts
Two rubbing thighs
And a big goal in the New Year

Don’t be Caught Unaware
In an article titled, "Chicago Marathon Returns to 45,000 Finishers for 45th Anniversary" published Friday, the following was reported: On December 8, the Chicago Marathon announced that 45,000 participants will start the 2023 edition of the historic race. The field size honors the marathon’s 45th anniversary. Additionally, one of the 2023 participants will cross the finish line as the Chicago Marathon’s significant one-millionth finisher. “We’re thrilled to host 45,000 participants for the first time since 2019 at the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon,” Carey Pinkowski, Chicago Marathon Executive Race Director, said in a press release. “As part of our millionth-finisher field, these participants will write their names in the event’s history book during a particularly special year. We look forward to celebrating their performances, as well as the contributions of the volunteers, spectators and community members who have made the Chicago Marathon the world-class racing tradition it is today.”

Commit your Work to the Lord
"Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established." Proverbs 16:3 ESV
In an email I received yesterday from Runner’s World+, Coach Jess addressed strength training and the importance of incorporating it into your routine saying, "As a runner, you don’t need to be a bodybuilder. You only need to strength train to become a stronger and more resilient runner. It’s that simple." She then went on to say, "The goal when it comes to strength training for a runner should be… (drum roll)... three times a week for at least 20 minutes per session. Can you commit to that? Let’s try it. Remember, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Start with bodyweight movements, add in resistance bands, and then work up to dumbbells and weight. The word is getting out that muscle deteriorates with age and building strength in the gym is critical for overall wellness and vitality. So start with three times a week for 20 minutes. Track your progress and improvements, and pay attention to how you feel."
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that we must rely on You for all of our needs and give You all the glory when those needs are met. Cause us to seek Your will for our lives and to be ready to step out and start the work when our hearts are compelled by You to take action. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!

Run with the Wise
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Proverbs 13:20 ESV
In an article subtitled, "Whether you’re new to running, new to the city, or looking for a new crew, this NYC running club directory can point you in the right direction" posted by Runner's World on Tuesday, the following was said: New York City is the largest city in the country, with 8.4 million people calling one of its five boroughs home. The Big Apple is also home to one of the biggest road races in the world, the New York City Marathon. You shouldn’t be surprised, then, to discover that there are hundreds of running clubs throughout the city. So whether you’re moving to NYC or are looking to join a new running club, we have a comprehensive list of all the running clubs out there. The list is sorted by borough, then by alphabetical order. Each entry links to a club’s website or social media page. So scroll through and find the right crew for your running future!
And you know, when it comes to having a bright future, the Bible tells us that “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Which is the very reason you and I would do well to not only choose our running groups carefully but those people who we associate with often, the people we refer to as friends, who are in our inner circle, and who we seek advice from. You see, good companions bring much discernment to our lives and when we choose to associate ourselves with wise men and women, we will grow in wisdom, knowledge and understanding; something that will draw us closer to Christ. On the other hand, foolish companions will corrupt our character and lead us astray.
So choose your close companions very carefully my friend. Make sure they are walking with Christ and showing the fruit of the Spirit so that time spent with them will make you wiser and keep you from harm.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that the people or groups we choose to spend time with will affect our Christian walk either positively or negatively. Give us the ability to judge them well so that we would ensure our spiritual future is successful. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!

Run in Such a Way to Win
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.” 1 Corinthians 9:24 NASB
In an article titled, “RUNNING: Pottsville grad Stoner becomes national champion marathoner” published yesterday, the following was reported: Paige Stoner never stopped chasing her dreams. Sunday, in Sacramento, California, she caught one of them. Shattering the course record by 51 seconds, the 2014 Pottsville Area High School graduate captured the victory at the California International Marathon. As a result, she was crowned USA Track & Field's national champion in the marathon. Stoner completed the 26.2 miles in 2:26.02, which was 1 minute, 39 seconds faster than runner-up Lauren Hurley of Boulder, Colorado, who ran 2:27.41. Of the win, she later said,” "I was very emotional. It was my first professional win — period. There's nothing like breaking the tape in a race like that. It was incredibly special."
And you know, when it comes to ‘breaking the tape,’ something only the first finisher of a race gets to do, the Bible is clear that believers are to “run in such a way” that they would win. That means devoting the same time, effort, and dedication to knowing and serving Christ that a determined athlete devotes to training. This requires a single-mindedness to take action each and every day to improve and hone your skills, doing only those things that will get you closer to the goal of being Christ-like and doing nothing that would hinder your progress in any way. It’s a focused determination to be the absolute best that you can be knowing that coming in first is sometimes only a matter of milliseconds.

BASS PRO MIDWEEK MOTIVATION - Skip the Excuses this Christmas
So in an effort to disprove the top six excuses for skipping your runs and strength-training sessions during the holidays, check out these excuse busters from the American Council on Exercise.
Surely, with the temperatures dropping and the holidays being just around the corner, Mother Nature becomes a great excuse to avoid the gym or experience the great outdoors. If this is the case for you, bring the gym home — literally.
Excuse: I don't have the time.
Excuse buster:
With holiday gift-shopping, get-togethers, cooking, hosting and entertaining family members, time is more precious than ever. If you feel like you're too busy to fit in regular exercise, try combining exercise with some of your daily activities.
Excuse: I need to travel and can't take the gym with me.
Excuse buster:
If you're traveling this holiday season, you're not alone. Millions of Americans will be on the road or in the air, but that's still not a good enough excuse to stick your exercise routine on the backburner!
People who travel for extended periods of time in an airplane should stretch to avoid deep vein thrombosis, a potentially life-threatening disorder that occurs when a blood clot forms, and create an action plan to incorporate active breaks during extended car travel.
Excuse: I'll start fresh in January
Excuse buster:
The new year does mean new beginnings, but wouldn't it be nice to start it with a headstart? New Year's resolutions are full of promise, but very few people actually keep them. By staying active through December, you can avoid the common new year pitfalls of doing too much too soon, which can often lead to burn-out or injuries.
Excuse: I can't get motivated when it's so dark.
Excuse buster:
If you’re telling yourself, “I can’t hit the running trails in the mornings, because it’s still dark outside,” or say “I may as well drive home after work because it’s dark,” it may be time to recruit an exercise buddy or hire a personal trainer. Having the accountability and companionship may be just what you need to stick to the workout on your calendar — even when it is cold and dark outside.
If you can’t find a workout buddy, try a group exercise class or boot camp. The classes might add some needed variety — and fun — to your routine, too.
Excuse buster:
Yes, it’s definitely tough to stay on track when temptations like holiday treats are ubiquitous. While there is nothing wrong with splurging a little, you’re bound to feel better following a healthy diet while limiting your alcohol intake.
Useful tricks for party-goers include bringing your own healthy treat like a veggie platter, eating something healthy before going to the party, drinking a glass of water with every alcoholic beverage, staying away from the dessert tray, paying close attention to portion sizes, and avoiding going back for seconds.
Also, exercising before festivities helps prevent unwanted weight gain and fosters wellbeing, so try to fit in 30 minutes before you get ready for that party.
