Safeguard wisdom and discretion

"My child, do not let them escape from your sight; safeguard sound wisdom and discretion." Proverbs 3:21 NET

While many races around the country chose to cancel their 2020 events in response to the Coronavirus outbreak, LA Marathon officials made the decision to hold the 35th LA Marathon Sunday hosting more than 20,000 runners on their 26.2 mile course. They did however move swiftly to, they say, "add anti-coronavirus safeguards" such as defering until 2021 any runner traveling from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Italy, South Korea and Iran. They also added hand-sanitizer stations at the race expo, the start line, along the route and at the finish festival. And it seems the safeguards worked to calm any fear the runners might have had as the race launched precisely at 6:30 a.m. with the normal amount of runners participating.

And you know, when it comes to taking measures to protect ourselves, the Bible tell us to safeguard "sound wisdom and discretion" so fiercely that we should not even let them escape from our sight. And why are we given such an extreme warning? Because sound wisdom gives us insight and instruction to apply God's truths to every situation and discretion allows us to recognize right from wrong and truth from error so we have the ability to make wise and biblical choices. As you can see then, these priceless gifts are crucial in keeping us from going astray and must be guarded closely.

So knowing that our sound wisdom and discretion is acquired through our knowledge of the Word, let us take every opportunity to read and study the Bible so we can apply it to our lives. Doing so will not only shield us from harm and destruction physically and spiritually but will protect our witness and our ability to win others to the foot of the Cross.

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us of the importance of guarding the gift of sound wisdom and discretion. Help us to grasp the importance of this that we might hold to it so tightly that it would never leave our grasp. Give us an unquenchable hunger and desire to read your Word Lord that we would grow in both of these areas. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
