The secret to it

"And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil." Ephesians 4:26,27

On April 30, Betty and Bob Kinder, 84 and 88, became internet sensations when they crossed the finish line of the Oklahoma City Memorial 5k together. Not only was the photo popular because the couple who have been married for 60 years was holding hands but because Bob wore a hat that read "Sexy Old Fart." And while I have no doubt that having a sense of humor has played a part in the success of their long marriage, they say the real secret to their success is never going to bed angry, and always saying, "I love you."

And you know this is not only good advice for married couples, it is good advice for all of us. The Bible tells us so when it gives us this warning, ""don't sin by letting anger control you." Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil." You see uncontrolled anger can cause us to say and do things that might hurt others and destroy relationships. And if kept bottled up inside, cause us to become bitter and resentful thereby giving the devil an opportunity to divide our marriages and friendships. That's why it's so vitally important to deal with our anger immediately and most certainly before the sun goes down.

Can you imagine how much grief we would spare ourselves and others by handling our anger properly? So if you're angry with someone right now, won't you work to resolve your differences before the day ends? After all, the quicker you and I work to mend a relationship the better the chances it will be restored.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that clearly tells us the consequences of letting our anger control us. And while we know there will be times when we will be angry anyway, we pray for the wisdom to handle it properly before we hurt others or destroy relationships. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
