Fearless

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7

It was a blessing for so many reasons to meet with my dear friend, Sarah, yesterday morning. Not only was it our last chance to run together and say our goodbyes before the Army relocated her and her family to Virginia,  it was a time when we could share in praising the Great Physician for a day we feared we might never see. You see, nearly a year ago on that very same course, my young friend suffered a mini stroke after a run we shared (very similar to the one we shared yesterday). Following the ordeal and after many tests, Sarah was diagnosed with a heart condition that warranted immediate surgery and one doctors said should have killed her many years ago. Was it a miracle that she made a complete recovery with no signs of ever suffering a stroke? You bet it was.

And while this woman of great faith would have loved to say she had no fear while waiting for her life-saving surgery, the thought of leaving her children without a mother, she said, left her overwhelmed with it. So overwhelmed, in fact, that a close friend took notice and asked, "Where does fear come from?"  To which Sarah, now reminded of God's goodness, replied, "Not from my God." Not from my God?  No truer statement was ever made as the Bible tells us that, "God has not given us a spirit of fear.. but of power."

You know there will be times in each of our lives that we will experience some type of fear. Perhaps it's fear about our health, fear about not making ends meet or the fear of just not being good enough? Whatever it may be, we would do good to remind ourselves that fear is not from God. Because as sons and daughters of the Lord Most High, you and I have been given the spirit of power. So let's start living that way!

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that tells us that you will never leave us or forsake us. Help us to remember that when our heart or mind is overcome with doubt and trepidation. Remind us that the devil is the giver of fear but you are the giver of eternal life that no circumstance could ever steal, Help us to keep our eyes on You. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
