Let's plant a field

"What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building." 1 Corinthians 3:5-9

As I ran by a field of wildflowers yesterday morning, I couldn't help but marvel at the process that created it. No doubt a seed had been dropped by a bird or other animal or maybe even planted by someone long since passed. With years of sunlight and rain, that seed had blossomed, spread and grown into the beautiful scene I was looking at. Not one step in the process was more important than the other. They were all necessary in their proper times and chain of events.

Bringing others to Christ is much the same. One person plants the seed and another comes along to water it, each having the one purpose God gave them. Then, like the sun He provides the wildflowers, God makes things and people grow. We are merely one step of the process, none more important than the other, and co-workers in God's service and in his field. How delightful it is to know that we are part of God's plan in bringing others to Christ!

There are times we might wonder if what we are doing matters. This I know all too well. It's then that we do the job called us to and trust in Him to do the rest. If you are a seed planter, do it without the worry of whether it will be watered. If you are the one to water the seed, do it without the worry of whether it will grow. Do your assigned task and leave the rest to God "who makes things grow."

Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing us to share in creating a beautiful field of believers. Help us to do whatever task you have assigned us knowing that we are co-workers in your service. Remind us that each of us has a specific task to do that we might not be overwhelmed thinking we must do it all. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
