You can't justify it

"He will judge everyone according to what they have done." Romans 2:6 NLT

In the world of running, the headline that made the top news on June 30 was, "Olympic distance runner under investigation over claim he altered COVID test." And here, as Paul Harvey used to say, is the rest of the story... British Olympian Andrew Butchart is under investigation after remarking he faked a COVID-19 test result in order to return to the country following an international race. Butchart said in an episode of "The Sunday Podcast" he changed a date on an old test as he prepared to check-in because there was a delay in getting a PCR test back, according to Reuters. The podcast was reportedly taken down after he made the remarks. "Everybody has faked PCR tests, I'm sure, to try to go somewhere because it's just so hard," he said. A UK Athletics spokesperson told Reuters the organization and the British Olympic Association were investigating Butchart after he made the comments.

And you know, upon getting caught in his transgression, Butchart did the same thing many other people do when they are caught in sin these days... he attempted to justify his actions by saying he was just doing what everyone else was doing. And while that may indeed be true and even an excuse that is deemed acceptable in this day and age, it doesn't make his actions right. In fact, as the Bible clearly tells us, every person will be judged "according to what they have done." That means each and every person will be held accountable for their own actions regardless of how many other people might have been doing the very same thing.

So don't fall into the trap of believing that certain sins are okay because everyone is doing them my friend. Each and every one of us will stand before our Creator one day and be judged individually for what we have done; and you can be sure there will be no justifying our transgressions when that time comes.

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that the "everyone else is doing it" excuse for sin will not deliver us from the consequences of going against the commandments laid out in the Bible. Lord, cause us to remember that we will be judged for everything we do that we might be all the more vigilant in staying true to the Word. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
