The personal recommendation

"Now bands of raiders from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. She said to her mistress, 'If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.'" 2 Kings 5:2,3

Like most runners, when I find a product of exceptional quality for a good price, I don’t keep it to myself. So when a friend joined us at a warm outdoor group workout session last week with the sun in her eyes and in need of a visor, I not only told her about the one I had just purchased from a big-box store for less than $10 that was better than my higher priced ones, I loaned her the hat to try and gave her the name of the store where she could find it. And you know what? Based on that positive personal endorsement, my friend showed up at the next group run with the same visor she had recently purchased, ever grateful for the recommendation.

And you know, when it comes to giving personal recommendations, the Bible tells the story of how one bold slave girl's suggestion left Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, eternally grateful. You see, this "young girl from Israel,” upon learning that the Aramenian captain suffered from leprosy, was faithful and spoke up to tell Namaan's wife to send her husband to "see the prophet who is in Samaria” so he could be cured. And because of her courage and obedience, Namaam was not only healed of his skin disease but put his faith in God.

So knowing the power of a positive personal endorsement, won't you be like the slave girl and boldly tell others about Jesus today? It’s not hard my friend. Simply tell them how God has changed your life for the better and how He can change theirs too. They will undoubtedly be eternally grateful.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that our approval of a product or person can heavily influence someone's actions. With that in mind, help us to be bold in telling others about the great things You have done in our lives. And please help us to realize that we, like the slave girl, are in the exact position we are for the exact purpose of reaching those around us. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
