The chance meeting

"Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Luke 12:7

Chip Gaines and Gabriele Grunewald
While wearing his signature tool belt, Chip Gaines, the star of Fixer Upper, completed his first marathon Sunday morning in Waco, Texas with Gabriele Grunewald, a cancer survivor and professional runner, there to cheer him on. This journey to the finish line, they both said, started with a chance meeting in New York City last October. A longtime fan of the show, Grunewald just happened to be on a training run in Central Park when she spotted Gaines, who just happened to be there too, and struck up a conversation. When Gaines heard the story of her commitment to run through adenoid cystic carcinoma, he was immediately inspired and decided to train for the race and run in an effort to raise money for cancer research.

And if you believe that meeting was by chance, or merely a coincidence, consider that the word coincidence translated from the Greek means "what occurs together by God's providential arrangement of circumstances." In other words, these encounters that appear to us as random chance, or arbitrary fate, are in fact orchestrated and overseen by a sovereign God who knows the very number of hairs on our head - and loves us so much that He personally arranges chance meetings to bring us into the paths of others to fulfill His purpose.

So no matter what you're facing today my friend, "don't be afraid" for "you are worth more than many sparrows." And if our sovereign God knows the very number of hairs that are on your head, you can be sure that He knows exactly what you need - and may even be orchestrating a chance meeting for you right now.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that nothing happens by chance. May that thought bring us peace as we reflect on how omnipotent and omnipresent You truly are. Help us to trust Your plan for our lives and to surrender our will to Yours that You might use us to help others through a chance meeting. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
