The real treasure

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:21

What would you do if you had $40,000 burning a hole in your pocket? Well if you're JP Caudill, a 39-year-old runner from Virginia Beach, you'd spend it on the World Marathon Challenge that starts on January 30, 2018. Amazingly enough, this IT consultant shelled out his whole life savings to sign up for the challenge in pursuit of his dream to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. That equates to 183.4 miles over a week and flying over 25,000 miles with a total flight time of 52 hours to do that. I guess you could say from his actions that JP really loves running couldn't you?

The truth is, the way we spend our money and what we do with our time says a lot about what you and I love. In fact, the Bible says that where our "treasure is" there our "heart will be also" meaning that what we "treasure" is what we value the most. And what we value the most is where we place our priorities and what controls us. In other words, the thing that we love most is our god, whether we want to admit it or not, and the thing we will give our time and money to. But you see, it’s only when God is our priority and the thing we love more than anything in this world that we will devote and invest our “treasure” wisely.

So based on what's written in your calendar and on your bank statement, what would you say is most important to you today? If it's not Jesus my friend, your "treasure" and your "heart" are in the wrong place.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that where we place our treasure is the greatest indicator of where our love and loyalty lies. If we have put any thing or activity before you Lord, please reveal it to us today that we might realign our priorities and put You first... where You deserve. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
