Better late than never

"Surrender your heart to God,turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins— even those you do in secret. Then you won’t be ashamed;you will be confident and fearless." Job 11:13-15

Ellin Grossman started running at the age of 74 and now, at the age of 80, has run over 70 5ks and track races. That may seem like a long time to wait before lacing up those running shoes for the first time, but Ellin Grossman is proving two old adages to a tee: “It’s better late than never” and “Good things come to those who wait.”http://zelle.runnersworld.com/run-matters/she-runs-she-started-running-in-her-70s

Wow, I just love stories of people who realize that it's never too late to make changes for the better. Making the decision to start a new way of "living" takes courage and faith. There is no better story of "better late than never" and faith in the final moment than the story of the penitent thief who was one of the two criminals that hung on the cross next to Jesus. Luke 23:39-43 tells the story, "One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

In the final moments of life, both criminals were with the Savior but only one made the decision to start a new way of "living". With courage and faith, he acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah and was rewarded with everlasting life. How about you? Are you waiting for the right time to make a life changing decision? While good things certainly do come to those who wait, they don't come to those who wait too long. Seriously, what are you waiting for? Great things come to those who decide to follow Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending your Son to die on the cross for our sins. Thank You for second and third chances and for your patience with us. I pray that those who may be waiting for the right time to make a decision to follow you would surrender themselves today. May today be the day that hearts are changed and lives are surrendered. All to you Lord, all to You. In your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
