Ready?

"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," 1 Peter 3:15

Seven years ago Brazil, with one of the fastest growing economies in the world, was chosen by the IOC to host the 2016 Olympic games. But now, many years later with the country facing its greatest recession in a century and embroiled in a huge government corruption scandal, Brazil is showing signs that they might not be as prepared as they thought they would be. In fact, another big indication of that may have come when the pools at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center turned green early this week because Rio organizers ran out of the correct chemicals to treat the water. It kinda leaves a person at a loss for words doesn't it?

When it comes to being prepared and having ample words, the Bible tells us that you and I are to always "be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks" to give the reason for the hope we have. And being able to reply with that answer means getting ready beforehand, well before the time comes to speak, by studying the Word and being prepared to explain and defend what we believe in.

And it's not only getting ready that counts, as the story shows, but staying ready. It's knowing Jesus, the reason for our hope, so well that we will always have the words to convey what He means to us. So, unlike Brazil who was ready at one time and then caught unprepared the next, may you and I always be found with the right words.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us. Thank you for your blessings and the hope of forgiveness, mercy, grace and eternal life that is only found in you. Give us a passion, Lord, for studying your Word that we might be ready now and always to share our reason for such hope to others that they might come to know you too. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

Ever be - Aaron Schust
