What do you value?

“Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root." Mark 4:3-6

This winter has brought some crazy temperature and weather changes. From negative 15 degree wind chills and snow to yesterday's very windy 64 degrees, I am grateful that I have the clothing to run in whatever the day holds. As performance gear can get quite expensive, I've managed to find most of mine at a discount or at thrift stores and garage sales. I find it amazing how much people will pay for things and then sell for pennies on the dollar. It goes to show that the things a person finds valuable today might just be the things they view as valueless later.

While many people will remain faithful to Christ, the bible tells us that many will fall away.  Luke 8:13 says, "Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away." Some people love the idea of free salvation and eternal life through Jesus but they fail to develop a love for Him... they never realize how valuable He is. So when trial comes or it suits them better to follow another teacher or doctrine, they abandon Him for the easier way... considering Him valueless. How sad that they can't see that a life with Jesus is of immeasurable worth.

Luke 8:15 goes on to say that,"the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." These are God's people... the ones who have roots. Rooted in the love of Christ, they will go on to serve Him and persevere until the day God calls them home. How about you? Do you know the value of knowing Him?

Heavenly Father, Thank you for your gift of salvation and eternal life. I pray that all those who hear your voice would be rooted in your love and not fall away. Open our eyes to see how priceless you are. Nothing in this world can compare to you and I pray that we would all believe that today. In your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
