"The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity." Proverbs 11:3
On November 25th, it was reported that Team Ortho Foundation, Inc., a non profit race organizer came under scrutiny for its small contributions to the organizations it claimed to heavily support in addition to problems at many of its races. Although their website stated that their goal was to "improve and enhance the lives of orthopedic patients", two of the organizations they claimed to have donated to had not received any money since 2011. In fact, their 2013 tax records showed that they only gave 1.6 percent of the nearly 4.4 million they took in. Looks like someone has some explaining to do.
The IST translation of Proverbs 11:3 says "The integrity of the righteous guides them, but the hypocrisy of the treacherous destroys them." When we are walking with Christ in righteousness, he is our guide keeping us moral, faithful and true to our word. But when we aren't, as this story illustrates, our word means nothing. We are acting out the very definition of hypocrisy: the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform. And this behavior will always destroy us.
As followers of Christ, we are to be set apart having no hint of duplicity in our lives. So be sure that what you claim to believe matches your behavior. If not, you just might have some explaining to do.
Heavenly Father, help us to be followers of you in both words and actions. May we surrender our will to you and allow you to be our guide from this day forward and may we follow you so closely that there would be no hint of hypocrisy in our lives that might cause others to turn away. May we be the very definition of what it means to have integrity. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
