"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3
My ultrarunner friend recently reported that his "fancy new running watch" has a feature called 'recovery mode' which tells him how much time he should rest after each run. Following an easy five mile run, his fancy new watch told him to take three days off. He had a good laugh as he wondered what it would tell him after his upcoming 100 mile race. One thing is certain, it will probably be suggesting he take more than three days off to recover.
I think if you and I were totally honest, many of us would say that we are in "recovery mode" too - recovering from the loss of a family member, loss of a job, a hurtful word or action or maybe even a physical malady. Whatever it is, Psalm 147:3 tells us this about the Great Physician, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Recovery by definition means: a return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength. This is a process that, unfortunately doesn't always happen overnight, but sometimes takes time. Thankfully Psalm 34:18 gives us this amazing promise, "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Isn't it wonderful and so comforting to know that God is with you no matter what you are going through right now? While we may want overnight recovery, God, in his time, will restore us making us stronger than before in ways we could never imagine. Trust in his plan and his promise that He is by your side, "close to the brokenhearted."
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you would heal our hearts and bind our wounds. And not only that, you have promised to stay close to us as we recover and are made stronger in faith by learning to trust in you and realizing that your plan for our life, although it may include pain and suffering, will ultimately increase our faith and help us grow spiritually. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
