“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 ESV
In a story titled “Birmingham runner wins half marathon in Disney World” published over the weekend, it was reported that Shae Zablan
took home the women's title Sunday. She finished the half marathon in just over an hour and 21 minutes. The course took her through the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. “Running through the parks was definitely a joy,’’ said Zablan. “I think also there was music everywhere. I’m not used to that at other races. There were people cheering like every 100 meters apart. There was always someone all around. It was nice.’’ Wow right? Wouldn’t it be nice if we had people cheering us on at all of our races? It sure would make finishing easier.
And you know, when it comes to having people cheer us on, Paul warned Timothy that there was a time coming when
people would not endure sound teaching, but would accumulate for themselves teachers that would tell them what they wanted to hear instead—teaching that would affirm and celebrate their sinful lifestyles. One look at our world today, and it’s clear to see that “the time” Paul spoke of is right now. Which means that the message of repentance that every believer is commanded to share will not only be received without cheer but will be met with hostility, rejection, and possibly even jail time. So while this means the race will get harder to finish, we must keep pressing on to the end my friend… not slowing down for even one moment on this journey to do our part in winning as many souls as we can before the return of our Savior. He is coming back soon! Therefore, we must be bold, brave and fearless, lest anyone perish because of our apathy, cowardice or silence.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that the message of repentance that we must share with the world will not be received with cheers or joy. Knowing that the Good News is the only message that has the power to save though, help us to develop a steadfast mind, body, and spirit that’s intent on sharing it, no matter the cost. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!
