“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 NKJV
In a timely article titled, "The Best Love Songs to Listen to on Your Next Run" published by Runner's World last week, the writer said: February has arrived, and whether you’re excited or dreading it, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner as well. While the holiday has traditionally been one to celebrate romantic love, in recent years, Valentine’s Day has evolved to honor all forms of love. Of course, running probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Valentine’s Day, unless of course you’re a runner who has proposed or been proposed to mid-race, but all runners get to celebrate the day as well. So take the opportunity to go for a nice long run with your significant other or best friend; Buy your favorite running partner a new running belt or baseball cap; or pass out gels to all your Valentines at the running club.
And you know, when it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day, you and I would do well to honor and recognize, above everyone else, the One who loved us enough to give “His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” You see God’s love is a complete, perfect and sacrificial love that is above and beyond any worldly love we could ever experience… proven by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us so that we could spend eternity in heaven with Him. That’s how much God loves us! Is that worthy of celebration or what?
So while the world is commemorating love this month, let us use the opportunity to talk about the One who loves us more than we could ever imagine—the One who spared nothing to save us from our sins. No other love can even remotely compare with the love the Father has for us.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us despite our flaws, failures, sins, and shortcomings. Give us a boldness to share this Message with the world Lord, that they might come to know You, the One who provided the gift of eternal life so that all who accept Jesus as their Savior can receive the greatest gift ever given. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!
