“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24 NKJV
In an article titled “Eau Claire Marathon runners face cold weather,” the following was reported about Sunday’s 26:2 mile race: Hats, mittens, and rain ponchos were sported with running shoes Sunday morning as people lined up in Phoenix Park for the, “Biggest small town race in the USA”. However, despite the rain and wind the runners were still eager to do what they do best. “We’ve been training all winter, in all conditions, so we are so ready for this,” runner, Dana Parisi, said. Parisi went on to say, “I love the spectators. Eau Claire is just such a great city. It’s a beautiful city to run in and there’s so much support. That’s my favorite part.”
And you know, while Dana’s success is greatly due to her being able to weather the elements (training in every condition to be ready for every condition), I’m confident the support she received from the spectators along the route played a huge part as well. You see, whether we’re running a hard race or having a bad day, there’s nothing that will help lift our spirits than pleasant words. They are literally “sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” Which is the very reason that every believer should be trained to weather the elements as well. After all, we can’t be out in the world spreading cheer if we aren’t prepared to step outside our homes and the walls of our churches right?
So be ready to set aside the comforts of a pew or the couch when God calls you to do so my friend. Whether it’s rain, snow, sleet or shine, we have Good News to share and pleasant words to speak. So let’s get out there and do it!
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us how powerful encouraging words are in helping our brothers and sisters reach the finish line. Help us to look for opportunities to build others up Lord that they might be strengthened to continue running the race no matter how fatigued they might feel. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!
