"Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8 NLT
As more and more states begin to lower and even remove their restrictions in an attempt to get back to "normal", a former New York City Marathon finisher, Josh Fiske, is sharing the story of his fight with COVID-19 to remind everyone that "the virus isn't any less strong - and it's still out there." Weeks before coming down with the virus Josh said he had been fine and healthy, vacationing with family and running. Then the 46-year-old doctor said he was fighting for his life at Overlook Medical Center. Thankfully though, Dr. Fiske made a complete recovery and was able to share his message to be cautious.
And while this transition to "normal" might lead many of us to believe that we no longer have to fear contracting the coronavirus, you and I would do well to take precautions remembering that, as Josh said, the virus is still out there. We would also do well to remember that "the devil" is still out there too prowling "around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." And that's exactly why Peter emphatically wrote, "Stay alert!" He was warning us not to let our guard down for even a moment, but to carefully and vigilantly "watch out" for our "great enemy, the devil" who would like nothing more than to destroy every one of us physically, spiritually and emotionally.
So no matter how safe the world may appear, keep up your guard my friend. Continue to social distance from others but be sure to never distance yourself from the Lord. Stay as close to Him as you can by staying in the Word that you might recognize and be ready for the devil's attacks.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that there is a greater enemy than we could ever imagine out there who is constantly on the prowl looking to harm us. Help us to understand just how great a threat the devil is that we would vow to never let our guard down and to make Bible study a priority in our lives. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
