"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." Mark 1:35 NIV
As the COVID pandemic continues, more and more people are turning to running and wondering whether it's safe to run with a friend or in a group (of less than 10 of course) that practices safe social distancing. And while the Centers for Disease Control recommends that you and I stay at least 6 ft away from other people when we are outside our homes, that distance, experts say, may not be enough for people who are exercising. Linsey Marr, a professor at Virginia Tech, says runners need to increase that distance to at least 10 feet, and other experts have suggested doubling CDC guidelines to 12 feet. Maintaining this level of distance, the researchers agreed, requires that runners not only run alone, but run far away from other people.
And while many people absolutely hate the idea of being alone and wouldn't dream of ever running alone, alone time is exactly what every believer needs and should crave. You see, when you and I truly love God, we will make it our priority to spend alone time with Him each and every day just as Jesus did. In fact, being alone with the Father to pray and commune was so important to Jesus that He literally yearned for it; making it his main concern to leave the house to get up and go "off to a solitary place... very early in the morning, while it was still dark."
So if spending alone time with the Lord through Bible study and prayer is not your priority and something you have an overwhelming desire to do, pray that God would rekindle that love. It's that important my friend. Especially now when we need to be reaching out to the lost. Because as Charles Stanley said, "The time you spend alone with God will transform your character and increase your devotion. Then your integrity and godly behavior in an unbelieving world will make others long to know the Lord."
Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing us to come directly to You for prayer and fellowship. It's unbelievable to think that the Creator of the universe not only allows us to approach Him but wants to spend time with us. Give us an unquenchable desire to be in the Word and in your presence each and every day Lord. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
