"But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation--" Colossians 1:22
There are just some things in life that are too good to be true-like losing weight by taking a pill, getting faster by wearing the right shoes or winning a million dollars in the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes. As much as advertisers want us to believe these things, in the end we know it's just not going to happen. But D.L. Moody once wrote, "God never made a promise that was too good to be true."
So while speaking to a friend of mine, who I hadn't seen in several years, I was saddened to hear that she had been carrying around guilt for something she had done more than 30 years ago. Although she said she had asked for forgiveness, she still felt freshly accused of it every day. I gently reminded her that that it wasn't God who was bringing up her past, it was the enemy. Revelation 12:10 describes Satan as the "accuser of our brothers and sisters" but Colossians 1:22 promises us that, through Christ's death on the cross, we can now stand "holy in his sight without blemish and free from accusation." And if God says we are forgiven then we are forgiven.
And that promise of forgiveness is not too good to be true my friends! Grab hold of it and when the accuser comes to say otherwise, remind him that the rest of Revelation 12:10 says he, "has been hurled down."
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of forgiveness of sins through the sacrifice on the cross. When the devil comes to steal our joy and weigh us down with guilt, help us to stand on the promise of Your forgiveness and remind him that he is a liar and that we are without blemish and free from accusation by the power of the blood of Jesus Christ!! It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
