"For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared." Ephesians 6:15
With my busy schedule the last few weeks, I have worn many types of shoes... trail shoes, running shoes, flip flops, dress shoes and even some boots, each one chosen for its specific usefulness for the task at hand. And while wearing the proper shoe is important, it's even more important to know when to wear it. Trail shoes are probably not a good choice for church and wearing dress heels for a race wouldn't be very wise either. But the bible tells us of a pair of shoes perfect for every occasion and ones that we should "put on" every day.
Ephesians 6:15 says, "For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared." Paul tells us in this chapter these shoes are part of the Armor of God and a vital piece of the protection we need to fight the spiritual battle we are in every day. Many translations say "and having shod your feet with the readiness of the gospel of peace" meaning that our feet are to be armed as with military sandals ready to stand firm in the fight free from fear. We can do this because we are at peace with God knowing that "if God be for us, who can be against us." (Romans 8:31)
Did you know that these sandals were furnished with nails to grip so the soldier could stand firm even on slippery terrain? That's quite a pair of shoes, isn't it? But like any other shoe, they can only protect us if we put them on. In your battle today, don't forget to arm yourself with the complete Armor of God and stand firm knowing "that you will be fully prepared."
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us everything we need to fight the devil and his schemes. May we choose every day to arm ourselves with the spiritual protection you have provided us that we may stand firm in the battle and be prepared for anything. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
