“When you eat and are satisfied, you are to bless the LORD your God for the good land that He has given you. Be careful not to forget the LORD your God by failing to keep His commandments and ordinances and statutes, which I am giving you this day.” Deuteronomy 8:10,11 BSB
In an article titled, “This Maintenance Running Plan Helps You Keep Up Your Fitness After a Big Race,” posted by Runner’s World Wednesday, the writer said “Going into the winter months is the perfect time to enter maintenance mode! Whether you just ran a half or full marathon (congrats!) or have been putting in work all year to lead to PRs in other distances, backing off a bit during the off-season is a smart strategy for both recovery and future progress.” They then listed several strategies for maintaining a balance between rest and running that would keep a runner from losing their love for the sport and giving it up altogether.
And you know, when it comes to maintaining your love for something when you’ve achieved your desired success, the Bible gives us the story of Moses’ reminding the Israelites of all that God had done for them over the 40 years He led them through the desert on their way to the promised land. Now, on the pinnacle of entering and gaining what they desired, Moses gave them this warning… “Be careful not to forget the LORD your God by failing to keep His commandments and ordinances and statutes, which I am giving you this day.” You see, Moses knew that it’s in times when we “eat and are satisfied,” that we are most likely to look to ourselves rather than to God, and that’s the beginning of forgetting Him altogether.
So whether you’ve gained a PR or had a massive prayer answered, be careful to always remember that all your gifts, talents, blessings and accomplishments come from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and earth. Bless Him daily for all that you have then and keep His commands at all times.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that prosperity breeds apathy. Help us to always remember that You are the giver of good things so that You would get the glory and we would not forget You. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!
