"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had." Acts 4:32 NIV
On Saturday, March 7, I had the blessing of being the Race Director for the Racing for Daylight 12 Hour Ultra Event in Waynesville, MO where well over 100 athletes ready to run lined up at the start line to hear me shout the words, "On your marks, get set, go!" at precisely 6 p.m. And as I watched the group move onto the course I had to fight back tears at the thought of how this race, now in it's fourth year, which might cost $100 or more somewhere else was still being presented for free! All because the timing people donated their services, sponsors wrote checks to cover the food, individuals brought supplies, and volunteers stepped up to help in shifts throughout the entirety of the race. And because of that, every single dollar that the runners and walkers voluntarily 'donated' to be there went to charity. Is that amazing or what?
But you know, as amazing as that is, when "believers" are "one in heart and mind" things even more amazing than that can be accomplished. Things you and I couldn't possibly imagine! You see, when followers of Jesus Christ don't view themselves as owners of "their possessions" but merely stewards of them, they are more apt to freely and voluntarily give what they have to meet the needs of others. And they do this in response to the unity brought about by the Holy Spirit working in their lives and in the lives of their fellow believers around them. Amazing right?
So if you're looking for a way to impact the world my friend, enlist the help of other Christians. Unite under a cause and work together to achieve it and you'll soon find that what you could do alone pales in comparison to what you can do with a group of united believers.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that nothing we have is truly ours. Our time, our talents and our resources all come from You. Help us to collectively use all that we have and possess to show Your love to others and in doing so lead them to the foot of the Cross. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
