We will be hated

"And you will be hated by everyone because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered." Mark 13:13 HCSB

In an article titled, "Why Are Runners Hated?", Allie Burdick explored some of the reasons many people just don't like runners-including that any reference to "a jogger" is usually followed by something unpleasant "like found a body" or "shoved a woman into an oncoming train". And inconveniencing anyone for merely six hours once a year by blocking their driveway or a street for race day is most surely the way us runners gain enemies. And let's not even talk about the people who loathe us for posting our times, running memes and the results of our splits. But, hey. You can't please everybody right?

You know, when it comes to being disliked, the Bible is very clear that, as followers of Jesus Christ, you and I will be despised by people who don't share the same love for Him. In fact, Jesus says it in no uncertain terms, "And you will be hated by everyone because of My name." But he also gives us the promise that "the one who endures to the end will be delivered." In other words, you and I should expect to face severe trials and mocking for believing in the only Name that saves. But, when we press on to the finish line in spite of it, you and I can claim the prize of salvation.

So remember, while we certainly can't please everyone and shouldn't even try, there's only One that we should be looking to for approval. May we today, and every day, live for Christ and Christ alone no matter who hates us for it.

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your one and only Son to die on the cross for our salvation. May we never back down or compromise from our belief that He is the way and the truth and the life and the only way to eternal life. May we be bold in the midst of persecution and stand firm when we are hated. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
