"God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another." 1 Peter 4:10
Katie Mackey, 29, won her first national title last week at the U.S. road mile championship in Des Moines Iowa with a time of 4:37:00. About the win, Katie admitted that she was glad she had made the choice to return to racing after seriously considering retirement in 2016 when her Olympic Trials ended in disappointment. She said it happened after much soul searching when she, realized there was a deeper connection to her career, based on her Christian faith saying, "I feel like it's this gift that's been given to me. I really wanted to do something good through my running." Since that moment, Macky has viewed winning and success differently and has focused on just doing her best and opening a running camp for teenage girls to give back and use all that she has learned.
While it's obvious that Katie has a gift to run fast, it was only after she recognized and acknowledged that the gift was from God and for God that her skills could be used to benefit others. And while each person's gift might not be so obvious, you can be assured that we all have one and that they are to be faithfully used to "serve one another." Looking to discover or use your gift? The best place to start is looking to fill a need in your church or your community. By doing this you might just find you are talented in areas you might not have ever expected.
So let us go about each day with purpose, using our God-given skills and abilities to serve others because as Tom Krause writes, "Your purpose in life is to use your gifts and talents to help other people. Your journey in life teaches you how to do that."
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us each one of us gifts to serve others. Help us to realize what those are and use them to the absolute best of our ability that we might help others and, more importantly, help bring them to the foot of the cross. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
